My approach is to start where you are currently, whether you’ve never done therapy before or have been working on something for years, and to learn what challenges or barriers you want to focus on. We explore obstacles that are frustrating you or keeping you stuck in old patterns to help you understand yourself better and develop more self-compassion. I also am skilled at teaching and helping you practice behavioral and psychological skills for managing your internal and external worlds with greater freedom and ease.
My philosophy
Being human is inherently difficult, which is both a startling truth and the beginning point for living with calm, confidence, satisfaction, and joy. Pain can present itself physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. We don’t have the option to make such experiences fully disappear, but we can clarify which pains will subside and which we can learn to live with meaningfully and even beautifully.
Treatment
You should come away from your work with me with greater understanding of yourself, new skills, and increased confidence in your ability to make progress towards your life goals. Many of my clients have stated that they have learned how to be gentler with themselves after working together, and that developing this attitude in relationship to themselves has been important in making progress.
I listen carefully and collaborate with you to decide our focus for each session. Depending on your need, I can range from being an educator, coach or advocate; to someone who brings to light patterns or themes you may not be aware of; to being a facilitator of deep exploration, insight, and behavior change. Our work addresses your whole self – body, mind, and spirit – and I have a wide range of techniques to help you make the changes we have targeted.
